Haynes Automotive Electrics manual. Excellent - quite unlike Haynes car manuals. Would also be worth looking in Maplin etc for basic books on electronics. You need to know those basics before moving on to car stuff, if you're ever going to understand them fully.
How old is he, and what, if any, existing skills does he have?

Hillier's Fundamentals of Automotive Electronics
Hes 25 and been working as a mechanic for 6 years and before he was home diy-er who caught the bug and took up it professionally. But wants to specialise in I think he said dash board electrpnics and auto-electrical stuff.
That looks pretty good, might be just the ticket.
Thanks MrC
I note that Amazon are doing this for £4.06 second hand.
