My nephew wants to be an auto-electrician and its his birthday soon and I thought I'd buy him a book.

could anyone recommend a book for a beginner ?

Haynes Automotive Electrics manual. Excellent - quite unlike Haynes car manuals. Would also be worth looking in Maplin etc for basic books on electronics. You need to know those basics before moving on to car stuff, if you're ever going to understand them fully.

How old is he, and what, if any, existing skills does he have?

Hes 25 and been working as a mechanic for 6 years and before he was home diy-er who caught the bug and took up it professionally. But wants to specialise in I think he said dash board electrpnics and auto-electrical stuff.
