APologies for the OT post first of all but I was wondering what you thoughts are.
My son is 28 and has been working since 19 doing jobs usually dead end one despite being advised to aim at a career but hes a happy go lucky sort and didn't want to commit to anything long term.
All of a sudden he came to me today and has been thinking about what he enjoys and likes to do and wants to make a living out of it. He has decided he wants to be a barber. I said I didn't know how good a career this would be but hes not half bad at it. Hes always had a keen interest in it cutting my hair and my other sons for the last 8 years now I can't tell the difference between him doing it or a barber except I save money :) althought hes takes about 40 mins as hes doesn't do it all day everyday and do it to perfection. The course is £1900.00 at the local college and he has this saved amazingly! His plan one day is to open his own place. He said he feels like life is passing him by and he wants to be skilled at something and not get to 40 and wonder why he has no particular skill, I kind of understand what he is saying.
He asked me if I thought it was a good idea I said sounds good, but I don't know how easy it is to get a job in this field or how well paid it is but he thinks it would suit him.
What do you reckon to this at a career ?
I'm got no idea what a barber makes to be honest, although it used to cost me £11.50 to get a short back and sides so ...
I was actually lost for words on this idea to be honest.
His sister became a paramedic and always wanted to be, well work as a doctor/nurse health professional to help the world.
