I take it you don't fancy Copaslip then like Lily the Pink's medicinal compound most efficacious in every case

As I understand it Copper grease makes the rubber bushes swell up & isn't that good for them in the long term (or so I've been told!)
I.
Its been fine for a good few decades.
No good on rubber and piston seals, ok for metal to metal anti seize/squeal. I got some tubes of silicon grease from Batoyle (£5 for a largish tube) but it was a while ago, Use it on motorbike caliper pistons rubber to metal moving joints and car caliper/wheel cylinder pistons.
I was also under the impression that while copper grease is great for anti-seize and very very high temps, it isn't that good at lubrication compared to other greases. I thought that normal Lithium grease was the recommended lubrication for caliper pins, leaving the copper grease for the back of the pads and the like ?
I think "normal" grease has the same issues - and its not that good at dealing with high temps - the caliper pins are screwed directly into the floating side of the caliper so they do get pretty hot - I think "normal" grease will just melt, go runny & drip away.

The "techie" guys the UK MX5 mailing list recommend Lithium for the pins on the MX5. It would seem that the factory/dealers don't use copper grease on them either, there has never been any sign of copper grease on mine.
Copaslips an antiseize compound, not a lubricant. You want silicone brake grease e.g.
You can buy brake grease from and accessory shop.

If you read it it's title is molyslip copaslip antiseize compund. The only place they describe it as a lubricant is for the back of disc brake pads.
Well, you'd think so - but not in any of the 6 or 7 I've tried this week!
If you know of one that sells it anywhere in Surrey/Berks/Hants I'd be grateful to know where it is!

Duncan, thanks for that - is that stuff not for assembling things like caliper pistons etc rather than designed for use in things like the caliper pins where its exposed to both heat, water and general crud?

Exactly what he says above.
Yeah, Halfords are particularly bad for basic stuff like this. I tried looking for lithium grease - none, but the monkey recommended I just used copper grease instead, errr, no thanks. I was after some 75W90 gearbox oil a few months back, tried 4 different branches of Halfords - none had any in stock. Windscreen wipers for my car (just the rubber bits on their own) - none in stock!
17mm hex socket - none, only bi-hex sockets in that size!
Take your pick!
Most likely retail outlet is a motorcycle shop.
It's just high temperature silicone grease, any bike shop should sell you it.
I seldom bother with Halfords now, I go to the local Partco, anything they don't have I get from an A1 franchise. The A1 place has lithium grease in sachets for under 2 quid a shot, or buy a tube of it for not much more. Between the 2 I can get any type of oil I need as well :)
