brake diagnosis correct?

I have had a squeaky binding rear brake on my Merc 280e. I just had both back wheels off. In one of them there was a lot of loose black dust and one brake pad was much more worn than the other on the same caliper. Is this pad's piston likely to be the culprit?

no, the less worn one is probably the one that is stuck.

Depends how the piston is sticking. Easest way to find out, is to try levering both pistons back in. You'll soon find out if they're sticking.

Are the pads free to move in the caliper? Most sticking brakes I find are normally caused by the brake pads seized in the calipers.
