Car maintenance on public road law

I was wondering if there is a law against working on your car on a public road outside your home. I recall reading something recently I think from doki having trouble with the council while doing some work on his car.

I was just wondering if there is a specific law which states whats acceptable and whats not on a public road.

Yes - even washing your car is against the law.

Something like using the road as a garage. But rarely enforced. Like so many laws.

Ahh, see we've just moved house and I had my bonet up on a few occasions topping up, new battery in and it drew some unwanted attention from what could best be described as curtain twitchers. As I enjoy working on my car I would hope it would land me in bother with the council. Sadly the driveway is on a slope so I can work on that.
