Car Stereo issues!

My last stereo (in for 14months) was never installed properly, and was only held up by the fascia/cage (should have been held on at the back)

Anyway, I have a new SONY stereo now which is slightly different.... this one is held at the back by having a pin type thing sticking out the back of the stereo which then goes into a hole at the back of the dashboard.... problem is that the pin sticking out of the stereo will not match anywhere near where the hole is in the actual car (not moveable) - and I am not sure if it is even long enough to reach the hole....

Any ideas? If I take it to a car stereo shop any idea hwo they could fix it and the charges involved? (its already wired up and working)

I need to have the stereo held in place because otherwise the weight of the stereo pulls the fascia out of place (unlike my old stereo which still stayed in palce even if I didnt attach it at the back)

The car is a R reg Fiesta

FFS - just take it to Halfords

I've yet to see one held in by anything other than the cage. Apart from the factory fitment in a Toyota Previa which involes dismantling half the dashboard anyway.

Just forget the pin is there. The cage will hold it just fine. That's all Halfords would do (their installers are only unqualified monkeys).

So you haven't fitted the cage correctly. The punched cutouts around it are intended to be bent back to lock behind the fascia. Push them in with a screwdriver.

So the stereo's worth more than the car anyway.

Yes, I have fitted the cage on just fine, the problem is the weight of the stereo unit pushing down on the back means the fascia is coimg out at the front.

Part of the problem is the original fiesta stereo was the size of 2 stereo faceplates, the replacement fasica has space for one stereo at the top and just plastic for the bottom space, and inside the dash, that means there is a huge gap underneath the stereo, so nothing to support it - unlike in some cars where the stereo probably goes straight into one hole and had other stuff underneath it holding it in..

i.e liek this

i imagine in the pegeuot, there is stuff under the stereo directly to help keep it in plate (may even be flat plastic for it to sit on?)

I assume this is the double din (big) stereo slot?

If so, these stereos are held up by a rail at the top of the slot inside, if you look at the old Ford stereo, you will see this rail guide bolted onto the back of the stereo. Most new stereos should come with this, it looks like two question marks face to face.

If you push the tags out at the side of the cage, it should hold, the side tags will grip the dashboard, rather than the removable facia bit.

Alternatively, fords have a rail above the radio slot, which holds a plastic slider which bolts onto the hole at the back of the radio, this supports the rear and prevents it drooping.

Hi, Yes it is, unfortunatley I do not have the old stereo anymore - i can see the rail built into the car but I don't have the bit that goes on the stereo... any ideas if you can buy such parts from Halfords?
