cavalier 92 1.8i

getting water in boot but no idea how?? any ideas..also a smell of petrol when the tank is pretty full but no apparent leak ???

The tank will be leaking. they all eventually leak, usually around where the filler neck joins the tank. Water could be getting in the seal, the lights, or with a Cavalier of that age a rotten floor.

Favourite is the inner wheel arch corroded where it meets the outer quarter panel - a common rot spot on Cavvies. If you remove the trim on both sides, you'll be able to see if it has or not.

Hole in the tank? Fuel coming out of overflow?
