Can anyone tell me how to change a headlight bulb on a facelift (post
98) Citroen Xantia HDi? I've had a look and its a mess of plastic covers everywhere, with no obvious way to access the area behind the lights. Anyone offer any help?

My book says-"Unclip the headlamp rear cover by pressing on clip 'A'. That's a piece of springy plastic at the side of the headlamp rear housing- black plastic cover. Disconnect the left hand -red, wiring connector. Press and disengage the wire clips 1 and 2. That's a piece of springy wire. Pull the bulb out. DaveK.
Thats what my handbook says as well, but it seems to be impossible to access the back of the headlight. The whole engine bay is almost covered in plastic guards!

Mine is the 90hdi (tweaked) so there is no intercooler. Maybe there's more room. The nearside headlamp near the battery looks a bit cramped but the offside area is clear. Fight your way in and accept your hands will look like you've fought off an attack of the moggies. Mine are recovering from dislodging a load of soggy leaves from the ventilation air intakes under the scuttle shield. Wondered why the demister was causing more fogging before it started clearing the screen. It's worth checking this to make sure the drian channels are clear. DaveK.
On my 96 model 1.9 turbo diesel I have to take the lid off the ECU on the drivers side of the car and possibly remove the ECU and the bottom of the unit. Then unclip the header tank pipe and remove the clip. This should now give you access to the RHS headlamp cover. It's a similar story on the LHS but I think you can either just get your hand in or maybe remove the air filter box. Took me about 20 minutes.
Thanks for the reply. I notice you say your Hdi is tweaked. Just wondering what you've done to it, as mine is a 90 too and I was considering power upgrades.
I did both headlight dipped bulbs without taking anything off apart from the headlight rear covers, that's on a 97 Xantia 1.9 TD. Access wasn't easy, but I managed it, maybe I've just got especially thin hands...
