Corsa diesel starter motor EEEEEK sound

Hi

I couple of months ago I posted about an intermitent problem with my

1996 Corsa diesel starter. Well I replaced the starter and solenoid with a second hand one off an old diesel Corsa I owned which had no problems when it was on that previous car. The "new" starter was off a 1.7 diesel and I fitted it to a 1.5td.....Both Isuzu engines.

The two starters look the same but have a different arrangement for the solenoid and also when you look at the cog that comes out, although it's the same size it looks slightly different.

My problem is that it starts fine but at the point of firing there is a more-than-audible EEEEEK sound!!!!! For about half a second. It hasn't got any worse in a month of driving.

To get this starter on I had to take the solenoid off first then put it on with the starter in situ and it is very difficult to put the solenoid rod over the starter rod. I guess I must've done that bit ok otherwise it simply wouldn't work???

So, maybe these Isuzu starters are not as generic as I've been told??? I would be very grateful if someone could hazard a guess as to what's causing this annoying noise as I'm going to sell the car and don't want to turn the stereo up while I start it!!!

Thanks to any replies

Jon

Instead of pissing about with second hand s**te that's not even from the same engine, why not just go get a reconditioned one?

likely that the teeth are still left touching the edge of the ring gear for a little while. take the starter out and inspect it, the fault will be obvious, grind away the very end of the teeth so they no longer touch, just a millimeter or two will probably do.
