Corsa - No Compression in Cylinder 3

So earlier today my car was shuddering when driving and kept breaking down so I took it to a garage and after leaving it there for an hour or two, their conclusion was that there is no compression in cylinder 3. The garage said it would be around £500 to fix.

I am no car expert therefore I'm looking around on the internet for some advice on what to do next. The car is a 2001 SXi Corsa with 110,000 miles on the clock. I'm not sure whether it's worth spending £500 on, but was also wondering how much I would be looking at getting if I wanted to sell it on?

Thanks for the help

Its not worth £500.00 , selling it on your likely to get scrap value with a buggered engine

Don't sniff at current scrap value, which was £138 per ton a couple of weeks ago. I agree, it's not worth spending £500 unless it is very clean and has 12 months MOT, plus sentimental value.

In the old days I would have had the head off at the drop of a hat which will tell you whether it's just a valve or whether the piston and cylinder are knackered. Then you could consider looking for a scrapyard head or engine. But TBH these days it's easy to pick up cheap and adequate runner for a few hundred £.
