Direct injection diesel pump

I'm thinking of buying a second-hand Toyota Avensis D4D.

I've just looked at the service schedule & it says the fuel pump is replaced every 90K miles. (The timing belt is 60K miles)

So if I see a car with a Toyota service history I can check to see that was done. But does that mean I have say a £1K extra bill to look forward to at 180K miles?

I would say 'yes'; timing belt and fuel pump, plus your usual service items etc.

Is the pump driven from the timing belt?

replace the fuel pump every 90K? Why's that then?

Dunno, but the service interval is 60k on the belt and 90k on the pump according to the OP, so 180k mile service will be the car's second pump and third belt...

I'm wrong, it says replace at 180K. That doesn't leave me in the clear though.

Does anyone have experience of the replacement cost with an independent?

I'm wrong again! There is a row for replace fuel pump at 180K miles, but no spot in any Avensis column. Downloading many charts from

I eventually found a spot in a Land Cruiser column! Now I understand :-) Regards
