Ford Focus Petrol 1.8  51 plate
Had a new clutch / slave cylinder fitted by reputable garage that I
have used before . The car has done 800 miles since and the clutch is
now slipping. The car was driven for for 8 months on the new clutch
and then the car was declared off road for 9 months . It has just been
MOT 'd at another garage where the mechanic pointed it out as well.
I have been back to the garage who did the job and they say that the
warranty on the parts only last for twelve months .......
As far as I am concerned it is either a dodgy unit or dodgy labour and
only lasting 800 miles is not fit for purpose etc.
The bill was for £623 ....... and for that money you would expect a
decent job & parts !
Anybody here had a similar experience and has any ideas on what could
have gone wrong in such a short time ?

Cheers

It is fairly rare to wear a Focus clutch out at all.  I have only replaced
one, yet I work on many.  Without taking yours apart it will be impossible
to tell what has happened.  As a guide the one I changed was two years ago
and I charged 550 quid. all in.

Tey have met the terms  of the contract, your clutch lasted beyond the
12 month warranty .

Its quite possible  if the car has been sitting idle for 9 months that
a seal has  split or developed a leak , the only way you will find out
is if you have it stripped down, if it is a leaky seal then not a lot
you can do

If it is a  faulty clutch plate you could sue  for a replacement owever
your unlikely to get the full value of the replacement because they
will take into account  your usage. most clutches will have a 12000
mile warranty / 12 month  so if you have done 800 miles its likely they
will reduce the cost by around 10%

The only way you could check and see is to strip it down and go from there.

The work shop or the mechanic should not have to wear the cost. They
offer a 12 mth replacement. You alone have the responsibility to ensure
the all was fine within the 12 mth period.  Your talking about 15mths.

Just think is there any way you could be responsible in the way it was
parked or stored for 9 mth period ?  parked with the seals towards the
clutch allowing oil to leak no oil dripping out the bottom??
