Escort Engine Problem

Hi - having problems with my 1990 1.3 Escort. From cold it acts as if it's only firing on 3 when driven. If you rev at a standstill its perfect. When it's warmed up it's virtually fine but still get occasional judder like it's missing. I've changed the plugs. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Trevor P.

I'd suggest changing the HT leads too. It may be that one or more are breaking down and the movement and vibration caused by driving the car are making the connections poor. If it has them you could try the distributor cap and rotor arm too.

I did this to my 1987 Fiesta once and it was like a new car afterward!

plug leads. Air leak , possibly from servo fault.. valve clearances or lack of (assuming it is a push rod engine rather than cvh) coil pack (if appropriate) one cylinder with low compression mrcheerful

If it's a CVH engine, there are two vacuum tubes which look like long, thin, plastic drinking straws attached to the bottom of the air filter housing. Check that they are not leaking. They advance the distributor (I think). The rubber ends on them sometimes crack.
