I'm interested in buying a CAN compatible diagnostic scanner to work with my 2005 Prius.
I've found 3 places selling low-cost scanners which claim to be CAN- compatible:

PalmOS software only, list $289, about $200 on eBay, +$20-30 for aPalm cable
- software looks good, but no information to write own applications

PalmOS and Windows software, list $140 for Windows, $195 for both(including Palm cable)- software looks slightly less polished, but programmers guide tointerface is available

On the face of it the dharrison product tooks to be both cheaper and more interesting for experimenters, since the programmers guide explains how to access the interface with your own software, which neither of the others seem prepared to do.
Does anyone have any experience with any of these? Any reason to prefer one rather than another?
