Fan keeps running

I have a n reg astra 1.6. when I stop a small fan located beneath the passenger side headlight keeps running and flattening the battery. I don't know what it does but it is not controlled by a fuse as i have pulled them all and it keeps running. I have had to disconnect it because of the battery but I am worried it is very important. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Thanks

it does not sound standard, post a picture. the only fan you would usually have is the radiator fan

It could be the overrun relay. I had a similar problem with an Audi

100. If it was the temperature sensor at fault, the fan probably wouldn't come on at all.

This is the secondary air injection fan (like a small hoover blower) which pumps air into the exhaust at cold start to warm the cat up.

It is controlled by the ECU through a relay in the engine compartment fuse box, and you'll probably find the relay contacts have welded together.
