Fiesta clock much too fast.

My Mk5 Fiesta clock is much too fast, gaining something like a minute every few days. It's not the end of the world, of course :-) , but it would be nice if there was an adjuster somewhere. Is it too much to hope? Does anyone know of such a thing?

The crystal's probably gone open circuit. They *can* be replaced, but it'd cost more than a second hand clock from a scrappie.

Sgt. Pinback brought next idea :

The used to have a little capacitance trimmer to adjust the frequency of the crystal, but modern and especially cheap ones do not - they tend to rely on the crystal being near enough to not need any adjustment. PC clock IC's used to have an adjuster to trim them, but do no longer.

Might be worth looking inside though - look for a tiny cylindrical alloy case, about the diameter of 2mm, 4mm long, with two fine wires coming out of one end. That is the quartz crystal. There might be a trimmer near it - looks like a tiny brass slotted screw, in a tiny plastic housing with two or three terminals. Turn that screw one way, just a fraction of a turn and see if the timing improves or gets worse.

If you feel up to it - add/solder a 5pF variable trimmer in parallel with the crystal, as described above.
