Usually relatively straightforward. On a '70s car, the first thing you'll probably have to do is take the back bumper off - it may well pick up on the mounts. Get that WD40 out NOW.

There'll be pickups somewhere further forward on the boot floor, too - perhaps the suspension mounts. You may have to drill a few holes. Has the boot floor been patched up in the past? If so, it might get creative.

Then it's just a matter of wiring. Just take the wiring off the tail lights. Make sure you grommet any hole through the boot floor.

The one gotcha is that you need an audible or visible indicator warning - a simple buzzer tucked out of way in the boot should be fine.

Why is that? My car buzzes and it's really annoying.

Because you have to - legally, AIUI - have some way of knowing the trailer indicators are working.

Disconnect the trailer?

The message from Another Dave contains these words:

Legal wossname - you have to have some indication that the indicators are working. Light on the dashboard is nicer, and many cars have the lamphole, just need the right relay to do it.
