I have a 1999 Ford Mondeo 1.8 Turbo Diesel (no traction control) - the amber ABS and red Brake warning lights are both on permanently. (Tried checking obvious things like connectors, etc. nothing found - also disconnected battery for an hour but lights both come on immediately after reconnection and switching on the ignition without any car motion.)
I had the system diagnosed and it came up with ABS memory error B1342 - i.e. need to replace ABS electronics unit.
The system is a BOSCH 5.3, the number on the pump is 98BG-2M110-AF and the number on the ABS electronics unit (attached black electronic box) is 404 966 00151 3.
The cost of a complete pump and electronic unit combined from Ford dealers is about 1050 pound including VAT - but the Ford dealer has given me a different number i.e. 98BG-2M110-BD. They will not supply the parts (pump or the ABS electronics unit) separately.
It seems very difficult to find a secondhand 98BG-2M110-AF.
What is confusing is that Ford are suggesting a different number for a replacement - when many experts on the remanufacturing web sites say you must only fit a replacement with the exact same FULL number.
Any advice would be welcome:
When the ABS electronic unit is faulty and if fitting a replacement do you always have to replace the complete unit (pump and electronic unit) and with one with the EXACT full part number?
Also, could I just replace the electronic unit with a new or remanufactured one with the same BOSCH part number?
(I know I could also get the existing one remanufactured.)
