Ford Escort ECU

Hi All

I have a escort 16V EFI which starts and then dies after about 2 secconds, we suspectthat the ECU is shutting down the engine as there is a spark and fuel for it to start, is there a DIY way to access the fault codes on the ECU? I used to ab able to short 2 pins out on a Vauxhalland look at the dash board lights can I do this or do I have to buy a Gunson box for the 3 pin plug?

Cheers

Please tell us which year of escort and which engine size, as this depends on whether you can short two pins to obtain codes. My guess is however you wont get anything- this problem sounds like a faulty main or fuel pump relay.

Hi Tim

Cheers for the hint, there seems to be fuel with some preasure in the bar that feeds the injectors the engine is a 1.6 16v L reg 1994, the problem sounds like it could be expenseve and I just wanted to get some conformation for myself what the problem is before I take it to my local money pit:-)

Thanks

There will be - even in an engine which has been run to a stop with the pump switched off. And if the system is in good nick, that residual pressure can remain for a long time.
