Ford Focus 2008 Lost Key

Hi

I have lost my only transponder key for my Ford Focus 2008.

I have ordered a replacement from, keys in the post.

I now need to get the key programmed to the car. Most people want £90-100 to come to me and do this.

I was wondering if there is any tools or software that i can do it myself via the laptop OBDII connection? I have a basic OBDII reader fault code clearer.

I would much rather spend the £100 or a little more and have something i can use/resell after the event than spend £100 for someone to come and do it.

Any ideas greatfully recieved.

I have only done one for a Vauxhall and to programme the chip had to remove it from the pcb. Pig of a job it was even with the other key present.

You might well find that you also need to programme the ECU.

I have ordered a key with transponder in.

I was hoping I could buy/download some software to program the key to the ECU rather than paying Bert to come around and do it.

if it was too easy then every thief would do it.

ps, I hope you ordered more than one key so that it doesn't happen again.

Whilst I agree with your sentiments, the theif would still need a key of the same mechanical fit and with a transponder in it.

Lets face it if I was a theif and wanted the equipment I would just nick the kit from the locksmith!

I have spare keys its just they are not programmed into the ECU. Im rather hoping if i get Bert around to program it for £90 he'll add more than one key for the fee!

once you have a working one you can program the others yourself, I believe. but you might as well get him to do it just in case. the kit I looked at for initial programming took about ten minutes to put the ecu into programming mode for 'all keys lost' mode, but it was several hundred quid. it was an ak90 , but it wasn't clear if it did european fords. info on your own additional key programming here, it says mondeo, but is probably the same.

As you need two working keys to initiate the program mode, but you have one key (the system will 'adopt' 5 at any one time), the procedure is to erase all programed keys and begin again from scratch.

I do this fairly regularly with WDS.

so I wonder whether this unit on ebay described as mini vcm would do what the op needs?

Good spot Mr C.

I have emailed the seller for Clarificaton...

In the meantime a friend of a freind who owe favours have said they can do it for £45 quid.

But if the Ebay item does it ill still buy that as it has other uses too.

For archive purposes. This system will not program keys.
