Ford focus t reg water in driver side foot well

Hi all

Problem as the subject

water is drippng from side panel near accelerator pedal

cover for pollen filter had come loose clips broken

Got a new cover from ford who said different design now no need for sealant

Fitted cover leak much less but still there

I suspect sealant needed

any advice please

Incidentally driver side panel also not sealed to screen on top edge but secure in place. As this side is full of holes by design can't see that sealing this side would make any difference

The revised design has one screw instead of three; I suspect its introduction had more to do with reduced manufacturing and assembly costs than improving its sealing ability.

Some online genuine Ford dealers sell the filter and butyl seal as a kit, so I'm not sure what your dealer was talking about.

It's sometimes difficult to get the new design to seal even with the correct sealant.

Get the correct butyl seal, then make sure the bottom of the screen and the cover are really clean

Must admit i seal my filter covers with a smear of silicone , the setup on the focus is really a poor design

Initially, it was not possible to obtain the sealing strip, other than in a reel sufficient to do many dozens of cars.. It's available now as individual strips.

I was really lucky years ago in that the parts guy at my local dealer went in to the workshop and got me enough to last the rest of my driving career, for free!

It isn't the Focus designer's finest creation, along with the heating and ventilation...

Bloody good cars otherwise, though.

IIRC they have moved the pollen filter to inside the car now, and of course made it much more difficult to change.
