ford mondeo automatic

hi can anyone help as my ford mondeo automatic is constantly reving and if its in drive it wants to keep pushing forward. the revs keep going up then going down. it shakes trying to go forward. the car is on a n reg and has done nearly 30 thousand miles i just wanted to know if its on its last legs or if its a cheep repair as we have no money for a big job. it also stalls if you leave it in park. thanks tracy

first check is the air leak they all get, there is a rubber t piece on the breather system, on the right of the engine as you look from the front, hidden below the electric bits, you can usually hear the hissing as excess air is sucked in, a spray with carb cleaner will show it up too.

hi i have found it and yes there is definatly a hiss coming from around the electrics. i had a look and it is fixed on with 4 bolts that seem inpossible to undo. thanks for getting back so quick. what should i do now. thanks tracy

as I remember the coil needs to be unbolted from the end of the engine, you can then see the black rubber T -piece that is probably the fault, it is fairly easy to change once you can see it. a ford dealer will have one , I think they are only a couple of quid (from memory)

thank you very much for your help it was exactly what you said. the only problem was we didnt have the specialist equipment to get the bits of so we put it into a garage and the did it for us. 50 quid labour and

3 quid what you said for the parts. with that in mind it might be worth investing in the proper tools. anyway thanks again tracy

A friend had exactly this problem and we diagnosed it by doing some Google'ing. Good thing too as it's one of those things an untrustworthy independent garage will charge you hundreds to fix. We took the part to Formula 1 Autocentres and they did the labour for £15 :) I like them, when I couldn't get my sump nut undone after a previous garage service they loosened it and the filter for me and didn't charge a penny. Is that cheap enough? :)
