Ford Mondeo Mark I Diesel boost gauge

Has anyone fitted one, and got some pictures?

I'm toying with the idea of fitting one but would like to know more.

Thanks!

Why would you want one? If the turbo works then it'll just tell you it's working - if it doesn't then you'll already know.

Perhaps he wants to tweak the psi a little without hitting boost cut?

Also, if you want to increase your mpg you can use the gauge as a guide, anywhere into the plus means fuel has begun to compress in the turbo- great if you want to go faster but not so good if you want to conserve energy.

Finally, I've heard (but not experienced) that any vac problems on the intake side show up as irregular readings so can be an early indicator of things going wrong (eg the rat nesting in your air intake last night got stucked into the airbox when you started, or a stray plastic bag blown up there etc etc)

Get a gauge that only goes up to 1 or maybe 1.5 bar...

What?

Apart from this being a diesel - what one earth do you mean "fuel has begun to compress in the turbo"?

Possibly, but it's not quite this simple. Turbochargers reclaim some of the energy that would otherwise be lost down the exhaust and there are some situations where a little bit of boost improves (reduces) fuel consumption.

The trick, then, is knowing where this is...

Particularly on diesels, where with the inlet always[1] fully open they increase the effecting compression ratio even when at low throttle running along the motorway at 70mph.

[1] OK, so EGR and other tricks muddy the waters somewhat.

And look on ebay - there's usually plenty there.
