Golf GTI Diesel (GT TDI)

Just wondering - did they do 130bhp and 150bhp of the Golf GT TDI?

The reason I'm asking is that there was one in front of me today that was badged GT TDI, but only the D and I of the TDI badge were in red, and I was under the impression that the system of using red letters went something like this:

All letters plain (i.e. silver) = 90bhp Red "I" but "T" and "D" in silver = 110bhp Red "DI" but "T" in silver = 130bhp All letters in red = 150bhp.

I've definitely seen a GT TDI model before with all letters in red, which I'm guessing was the 150bhp model, but I thought that the diesel GTI (aka GT TDI) was only made in 150bhp guise, with the 130bhp engine being reserved for other non-GT trim levels.

But maybe this isn't the case - did they do a 130bhp GT TDI model?

Yes they did. A mate has the 130 which he chose after driving the 150 and finding it less refined, and not much quicker. You're about right with your badge colour analysis, but it evolved several times as the 90 engine was replaced by the 100, and the 110 by the 115 etc. My brother in law has a 52 plate Passatt with only a red I which is 100bhp. Presume the Golf followed a similar pattern

It used to be the case that with VW the badging was applied by the selling dealer. Certainly the 2.0 petrol GTi was only badged "2.0" when it arrived in the UK and the dealer added all silver "GTi" badging, instead of or in addition to the 2.0. This could be why some TDi's were badged GT TDi.

The new shape GT TDi is only available with the 2.0 140 bhp engine, the rest get 105 bhp 1.9's or 2.0 SDi's.

The GTi badge is a very British thing especially with that "old" 2.0 petrol engine!

You are correct in saying that the D & I in red should be a 130 AFAIK.
