Head gasket oil leak

The 1.5D Pug 106 has a minor oil leak which appears to be coming from the head gasket (I was hoping for the rocker cover gasket but no such luck). No obvious adverse affects other than oil loss. I'd already chucked some of that Wynns oil additive in that allegedly conditions your oil seal (suspecting it was snake oil but £3 for a pot so what the hell), no obvious effect. Is there anything else I could try, sort of Radweld For Your Oil System type thing?

  1. Replace gasket.

  1. Keep putting oil in.

  2. Wash engine & sell car.

Could you try lifting the rocker cover, and nipping down the head? Then resealing the rocker. My ZX had an apparent oil leak from somewhere near the top, I eventually tracked it down to the solenoid leaking fron the top where the metal meets the plastic bit. A bit of epoxy resin cured that. It would only leak when cold, after a minute it was sealed, presumably by heat expansion.

My Pug 306 1998/S 1.4l is similar. Bought it at 58k miles in 2001. Now at 108k. It's leaked like that for most of the life we've had it, no excessive loss of oil via dip stick and no puddles under car - just wet with oil from front off-side part of engine at head gasket level.

I'm sure now it'll blow on the way home - but it's lasted with the leak for a while now. ;)

Doesn't sound like quite the bargain after all...

Oh, it is, it's just the oil leak's annoying me. Not even getting any drips on the drive now I've bolted on the 50p metal ladle from Wilkinson's. :-)

Are you sure it's an oil leak and not a diesel leak? If not, have you tried taking off the rocker cover and re-torquing the head?
