High pitched brake squeal

My daughter is complaining of a high pitched squeal from her car ( a Y reg Corolla) that varies with road speed and she says it appears to be coming from the direction of one of the wheels.

The problem I have is that it's so high ptiched I can't hear it all all!

Assuming it *is* something brake related, what's the likely cure? It doesn't bother me at all but she's giving me earache about it. ;-)

I am afraid you have to look, it may need new pads or shoes, or it may just need a good clean out. Some jap cars use a metal wiper that contacts the disc when the pads are low to give audible warning, it may be the first signs of that operating.

Copper grease on the backs of the shoes/pads. Works every time

Didn't on my other daughter's Corsa. Perhaps it would work better on = the front of the pads? ;-)

That'll have to wait a couple of weeks until she gets home. She's not = doing much mileage just now. Is it reasonable to leave it until then or = should she get it looked at locally more urgently?

if the noise doesn't get worse it will likely be OK for a couple of weeks.

My daughter's policy when there's a noise she doesn't like is to turn the radio up so she can't hear it.

The Corolla two types of pads depending on which front suspension either Aisin or the Sumitomo which has the wear indicators.

But most likely its the wear indicators that are making the noise.

Except when its the wear indicators touching the rotor,
