Just changed the discs and pads on a friend's N-reg Civic with 75k miles on the clock. The calipers looked fine - no signs of leaks - but when I pushed the piston back in on the nearside caliper a fair quantity of fluid oozed out from behind the dust seal.
We're not messing about, just going to put a new caliper on, but I was surprised - even a little concerned - about this as it doesn't seem an excessive mileage or age.
Any thoughts about this? I was wondering if a previous owner had popped the piston out by pumping the pedal with the caliper off and just pushed it back in but would the fluid that leaked out then have completely boiled off or would there have been some tell-tale residue left behind?
TIA
