How do you disable the alarm on a 97 Metro?

A neighbour has a door lock/alarm problem on her 97 Metro. She hopes to get it fixed when she returns from holiday.

She does not want the alarm going off whilst no one is at home. Is there any way of disabling it or would disconnecting the battery be the best way?

the alarm has to be turned on with the remote, locking with the key will not put the alarm on, the immobiliser will come on regardless 20 seconds after opening/closing the drivers door, but not the alarm, the light on the dash flashes to show the immobiliser status rather than the alarm.

battery disconnect would be the only practical way to be sure nothing can happen !

There are two different alarm setups on the Rover Metro. One is easily cured by unplugging the alarm ecu (behind the glovebox, IIRC) the other isn't.

Two of my mates drove a shagged out '97 Metro to Czech last February and the immobiliser packed in when it was there (probably due to the cold), they discovered that if you started it on the 6th flash of the immobiliser LED it'd go.
