Interior mirror is floppy and droops

Hi

someone may have a simple suggestion to help me...?

My interior rear view mirror has beocme floppy on its ball joint. When I get in the car it has often drooped downwards, and I'm unable to use the 'dimming lever' as the whole mirror rotates instead of the small lever. Its firmly glued to the screen - its the ball joint that's loose. To adjust the mirror only takes a very light touch. And it's getting annoying!

It's on an '02 vauxhall astra. Anyone got any ideas of something that will make the ball joint more 'sticky'??

Cheers

Martin

[Oh I just can't resist...]

Viagra!

Just keep playing with it.

[Oh aren't I wicked...]

Seriously, he said wiping tears of juvenile mirth from his eyes, on one of my cars there was scope to tighten the collar around the ball. Any sign of a screwthread behind?

The message from snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com (Martin) contains these words:

You didn't make the mistake of oiling it, did you? I've known people do this 'cos it's too stiff - and then it goes floppy.

If not, then I suggest you go the breakers and get another - or buy a new one. It'll probably be cheaper than getting hold of a can of kilopoise - grease with a thickness rating up in the high thousands.

Pull the ball joint apart. Then use heat, a hairdryer will probably be enough, to distort, preferably the the ball, but distorting the cup should still work. Leave for at least half an hour to get thoroughly cold, then reassemble. Mike.
