Jacking point

I want to jack up the entire front end of my car (Fiat Punto) and support it on axle stands. Where is the best place to locate the jack? Do I need to do each side individually, or can I lift the front in one movement?

Cheers

scotch-egg ("scotch-egg" ) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

You can do the whole front at once, IF there's somewhere good and solid like a suspension crossmember to put the jack under. DO NOT shove it under the engine or floor or anything like that. If in ANY doubt, do each side one-at-a-time - and be careful with the second one, in case it falls off the first stand.

I had a couple of MK-II 1.2l 8v Puntos (may be different for yours). The Axle stands go at the jacking points, look under the doors you'll see two vertical marks. Check your owners manual if you can't find them. The car can be jacked up by under the engine. To quote Haynes "When using a hydraulic jack to raise the front of the vehicle, position the jack head under the transmission differential housing, using an interposed block of wood. Do not jack the car under the sill, sump, or any of the steering or suspension components."

It's hard to explain, but you'll see a small stump drop down bit at the back of the transmission differential housing, pretty much where the lower engine mount is attached to the transmission.
