K Series head gasket.

My niece has an MG with the K Series engine which blew a head gasket. A reputable garage fixed it including having the head planed. But it isn't running properly and is using water. Is this fault sometimes just not fixable?

If it's done properly with a good quality gasket & metal dowels it should fix up OK.

The place I used always change the water pump and frequently the radiaitor too. but they aren't cheap... In fact they're b****y expensive, but claim to have done 340 without problems and if you have it serviced there, they will guarantee it for 5 years. I hope they're right, but I'm not having them service it. So far, about 6 months, it's been fine.

Pal of mine got one a year old. Ended up within a few months having the engine replaced under warranty because three attempts by the dealer to fix it failed. AIUI, the liners can move?

Sometimes a real good cooking will finish these engine. We need much more info as to what happened to it, and what work was done during the repair ...

Did they replace the manifold gasket? And was the new x-part girdle fitted?
