On the offchance, is there a known fault which will give the extremely vague symptom "judders occasionally and loses power"?

I've heard some have a vacuum pipe with an elbow that commonly cracks. RH side of engine, looking from the front. MrCheerful will know...
Ta. Apparently it idles perfectly well so it does point to vacuum or HT leads. Possibly!

The pipe Chris refers to is commonly known as "that T piece". It lives under the coil pack (only on Mk1 Mondeos). It is prone to splitting but when it fails, it generally gives poor idling problems. No harm in checking it out anyway. My money would be on leads or coilpack though. Don't forget that the Mk1 has hydraulic lifters that give rise to sticky valves if the anything thicker than 5w-30 oil is used.
