Local garage breaks our cat during an MOT. Why always us?

Took the mondeo (1) to our local garage to have an MOT done. Jan stopped in on the way back from school to see if it was done. "Er, there's a problem. We cracked the downpipe from the manifold to the cat getting it off the ramp. It wasn't our fault, its hanging lower as its not a standard ford part." (2)

No emissions test or brake test done yet apparently, I'm off down there to see whats what. Why me?

(1) Kk2 2.0l Ghia, 1996, manual, petrol. (2) CATFD105Z U/RD03 if anyone recognises it. From CES ltd of Chester. A replacement fitted on 27 05 05.

Fuckwits.

Bollocks it's not.

So?

They have a care of duty to take care of your car whilst its in their workshop. If they have broken the pipe taking it off the ramp, then it is their fault and are liable for the replacement/repair They will try to wiggle out of it but stick to your guns.

Explain that either they fix it to your satisfaction, or you'll take it to a Ford dealer and pass the bill back - I know which they'll go for.

At least they were honest about the incident... Just think how many places wouldn't be!

Well, I thought this might be the start of one of those long, "they owe me money" threads. Nope.

They're admitting liability, sourcing a replacement but it'll be a few days. Strange, I got mine next day and them being in the trade I would have thought they could have it delivered pronto.

Anyway, its all going to be replaced. No threats needed either. How unusual.

They've probably done more damage and need a few days to fix it all.

depends where they source thier parts from, if they use thier own supplier they might not carry it in stock & rather fit a decent part then a crap one.

why unusual, there are some honest garages out there !

It always surprises me how pleased people are when a garage messes something up but then offers to fix something. You wouldn't recmmomend a doctor who bodged your nose job because they said ok come back in and we'll fix it.

True, but the usual response is that it is not their fault, so an admission is a breath of fresh air comparatively.
