Maybe OT: Jeep Warranty/ Axle Seals

A friend has a Jeep Wrangler 2.5, new in 99 IIRC. Looking at the paperwork for it (before they bought it), there's a note on one of the invoices saying both axle pinion seals are weeping (October 2000). However, there's no note of them ever being replaced, and the axles are rather more than weeping IMO now! This is the Jeep that hasn't had a service since it was bought three years ago, and I noticed the axles were noticeably leaky sometime last year, but they never bothered to have them done..

Basically, if there is no record of the pinion seals ever having been replaced when it was noted well within the warrany period (and the first owner of the car kept up with the service schedule etc), then is there a cat in hell's chance of the current owner being able to get the local dealership to do the work free of charge, sort of "under warranty" so to speak?

If not, then how easy are they to do on one of these things? I'm going to be doing a few other things to it to get it through the MOT, and the seals themselves are cheap enough, but I wondered if there's any potential nightmares ahead of me.
