Mazda 323 air con problem

Hi,

I have watched for a long time the group but this is a first post as I am out of my depth with both Mazdas and air conditioning. A friend had a Mazda 323 Y plate (2001) in the main dealer for a regular service. The air conditioning system has a cracked condenser (cracked or pin hole or something like it).

Mazda says parts + fitting are around £450. Is this a fair price? Any point in trying to find an independent air conditioning specialist? I presume if a new condenser is needed, and it has to come from Mazda, it won't be cheap.

TIA for any thoughts.

Charles

Always a point in getting a quote from an independent. Despite what you=20 think, many of the actual mechanical components of aircon systems are=20 not car manufacturer specific.

I'm really a nice guy. If I had friends, they would tell you.

Just to expand, some mazda parts, such as aircon, do tend to be very pricey. Only reason I got rid of my 323f :(
