MK3 Golf juddering under load

Evening all

My MK3 1.8GL Golf (1995 M Reg) started juddering under load on Thursday, and it's gotten progressively worse over the weekend. The car is in generally in good mechanical condition apart from it is overdue a service, as the last one was 12 months ago. The symptoms are when either accelerating regardless of incline/decline there is a noticeable judder. It started on Thursday as only once or twice a journey, but now it seems to be everytime i accelerate hard, but not if i apply gentle pressure. It idles at 1100rpm when cold and settles at 900rpm once warm.

I'm thinking that it might be one of the below, if i have missed something please shout.

1 Spark plugs (which is what i believe to be the most probable cause) 2 HT leads, but the current ones are only 6 months old 3 Fuel pump (not sure about this one as it tends to be ok once a constant speed is reached) 4 Crap in the fuel lines, or dirty fuel filter 5 Air hose?

It was also suggested to it MIGHT be the clutch dragging which could be feasible as the clutch release cable needs replacing (sometimes i need to go into natural when selecting 1 or reverse gear. The sleaving looks worn, but it's going to have to wait a couple of weeks. I haven't been able to have a look at it due to the weather and other commitments, but i will be having a nose at some point this week.

Any thoughts?
