Netto Jumpstarters £19.99

Noticed these in my local Netto and was in 2 minds whether or not get one, but with just a couple left on the shelf decided 19.99 was probably not a bad price. It says; 17.5Ah, 900 Amps peak / 400 Amps boost starting power.

Not sure how that equates with the more expensive units out there but it does say that it's not suitable for cars with electronic ignition, or is that just a general disclaimer to cover the manufacturers ass? I don't envisage using the booster very often but with winter just around the corner you never know, and the built in compressor for tyres will be very handy.

Some of the cheaper units will fry your ecu , you get what you pay for

How do they do that then?

Sounds like a POS, take it back and ask what petrol cars made in the last 10 years don't have electronic ignition.

Voltage spikes , not so much an issue on older cars as they didnt have ecu's

Many car handbooks now tell you not to use chargers on batteries that are connected too the vehicle because of this issue

I thought those jumpstart boxes were basically just a battery in a plastic box (if you ignore the charging circuitry that won't be in use when actually jumpstarting)? How does a 12V battery manage to induce spikes?

So how do you get a voltage spike out of a battery short of connecting it backwards? The price of the units irrelevant.
