Hi, Sorry it is off topic but do you know of any company that will offer temporary cover for a vehicle for 6-8 weeks My current company was £160 tpff for 12 months but want £28pw for extension period It would of course be cheaper to insure for the full year but they take cash in full if cancelled HELP, The car aint going anywhere just parked on the road until I can move it on
All the companies I have ever dealt with offer a partial refund fro early cancellation. It wont be exactly pro-rata, but you should certainly get a decent chunk back.
Where is the requirement that a car parked onthe public road needs to be insured? It needs to be taxed, but why insured? It's hardly going to jump up and bite someone's bum, is it?
Go to a broker. They'll probably know which companies are best for genuine monthly cover. This is different from paying an annual policy in a monthly fashion, which is just a normal annual policy connected to a 12 month loan.

Law.
Because it's on the road.
Speaking as somebody who had a phone call from his neighbour a week and a half ago, as a VW Golf had rolled down the hill, hit my car, and shoved it down the road blocking next door's drive and the middle of the road...
Is it a case that you have purchased another vehicle? My insurance company informed me my car is covered for 2 months while I try to sell it, fortunatlely I never had cause for concern over period, as 55 plates are now out , September and March are not good timesto fetch agood price for used vehicles :-(
Thanks to all for advice The problem is although I can put it off road at a stretch I need insurance if someone would like to test drive it My insurance company Chauser UK want £28pw for extending the £160 pa insurance which is IMHO stupid the other ones I have tried for full year pay monthly have a get out clause saying you may cancel but will then be charged at the temporary rate for months used again a ridiculous price ie:- we have your £160 and either way we are keeping it, so it seems I will have to take the full year and let the new owner drive on my insurance a thing I do not want to happen for the obvious reasons
Oh well another Illegal on the road then, they really go out of their way to make sure everyone is insured (not really I would not chance it with my luck I sold my deceased mums house six-months before the housing boom, and lost money, then I invested the cash in stocks and shares six-weeks before the
9/11 which reduced it 60%. Pulled out of a lottery syndicate two weeks before they dropped the 5 million) Lucky white heather 6p a bunch wife and six kids to support :-) If I did not insure and gave a potential buyer a test drive you could guarantee he would ram it up the back of a school bus full of kids :-( It is an old but very good car so not worth a lot it runs everyday excellently without fail, but I decided to treat myself and ended up with misery woe is me

Thanks for the reply.
Yes I bought myself a new car, the old one was old as in 12yrs 135k miles from new by myself, and a very good car, which to be honest I should have just kept only I fancied to treat myself out of pure indulgence.and a that age present to myself (no more work :-)
The dealer did not want to have to move on a really old car, (they did not know how good it was, nor would any punter) so I got a generous discount as I paid cash
My next problem was to move on the old car, seemingly worthless, but I Knew he wasn't, I was not short of a bob or two, just did not want to pay some insurance broker a ridiculous sum for temporary insurance
I had not the heart to scrap Redgie the Renault, I could not really sell him due to age and peoples mis-trust of my honesty
Anyway I put a new MOT on him £32, Nine-months Road Tax, and passed him on to a young family for £100, they are happy, I am happy and Redgie is happy that he is not crushed. I know the young family will not have any problems. I know they will not cash in the RFL and scrap him for the £70 thus making £40 profit or break him for even more That is all I want really
Thanks all for the time and reading, I feel better now (sad feeling guilt over a lump of metal) but there you go
You are lucky, when I was ordering my car the VW dealers around here were so snooty, cash or not they did not even want to discount a quid off the price, in the end I ordered via a broker and a hefty discount was had on a GTI, my car at the time was the MK4 1.8t and they wanted to offer me 2k5 less than what they had not so nice models on the forecourt, (I know they have to add warranty etc but ffs!)
Fortunately after 2 months the MK4 went to the1st viewer and at a book price which made me quids in on the deal, the hassle was worth the 3k+ saved.
