hi there hope someone can help , ive just recently bought the car and the drivers heated seat has failed today , all other seats are fine. ive looked at the manual and the fuse must be ok as it also covers other items, ie rear blind etc. so can this be a sensor problem and is it easy to get to and fix
Most common cause of failure is due to a breakdown in the seat heater mat itself. First of all, I would check all connections between the seat and the body (located under the panel between the drivers seat and the door sill). It is possible to check the resistance of the heater mat once you access these connections, but unless you know exactly which wires to put the meter across, then DO NOT DO IT, as there is a chance you could trigger an airbag if you put a multimeter across some airbag wiring by mistake. Often the integral thermostat goes open circuit on the heater mat, although I have seen instances of the thermostat failing closed, scorching the seat cover... The mats are a PITA to change, especially if you have leather seats (more than likely in an Elite), and are quite expensive to boot.
thanks anthony i will have a look at the connections to check this , but will def leave checking with a meter, and yes its leather seats as well , just a pity you cant get the thermostat on its own to replace rather than this mat you mention , heres hoping its something simple , i will let you know how i get on
