I believe the FIRE engines are non-interference.

Honest John says "1,108cc Punto 55 'FIRE' engine is 'non-interferance' so valves don't hit pistons if the timing belt snaps."

Hmmm I'll have to get some more info on how to identify the engines- cheers for that then!

I've not seen the car yet so i cant tell you. I have just read that the 16v FIRE is interference but 8v isnt. This this might be the 8v- hes a lucky bugger if thats the case.

I think all (ICBW) 16v engines smash themselves to pieces.

Toyota 3S-GTE 16v turbo is not interference. In fact i believe most toyota engines arent.

My girlfriends punto snapped the cambelt and was fine with a change of belt - R reg IIRC.

Looks like he may have come off OK somehow! Mind you he was moaning over the fact that he had had to replace his gearbox the other month at the cost of my CLUTCH lol.

If it's the 1108 engine, you're OK (only came in an 8v version, nominally producing 55HP). If it's the 1242, you're ok if it's the SPI version (badged as 60HP) or MPI version (early Puntos only, badged as

75HP), both 8v, but stuffed if it's the 16v version (badged as 85HP).
