Picasso HDi CV joint

Pretty sure the picasso NS CV jont has gone - grinding noise - worse when cornering and a judder. Question is - how much should local indipendant charge for replacing ( I'll supply the CV) and would it be better to replace the entire drive shaft or will just the cv be OK? how many hours to replace? Many thanks.

drive shafts complete are relatively cheap these days and easier to fit than just a cv. should be less than an hour to change.

Thanks, online prices for CV seems to be about =A340 full drive shaft =A385 - I would imagine a lot easier for them to change though - not having to split the old shaft - My guess is 2 hrs labour for fitting the drive shaft complete, about right?

it is listed as a 1hr job for left and 1.2 hours for right.

Thanks - update on it - the wheel nuts were loose ! less than 100 miles since having new tyres fitted at national tyres, the huts are damaged where the chamfer is and the wheel rim is damaged where the recess is for the nut chamfer. Going back tomorrow they can fit the tyre onto the spare rim and they can have a bill for the wheel nuts and new steel rim. Well pissed off as have been doing 70 with nippers in the car when the noise started! makes me cringe to think what could ahev happened!. Easier on the pocket though, but still furious at the mindless arse who forgot to tighten the nuts ! - It'll take some restraint to stop me tightening his nuts tomorrow ! Thanks for the help here anyway :-)

they usually have a get out clause on the bill that says something like: you should check the wheel nuts after 25 miles or so. :(

Yep - youre spot on - what a get out clause ! - if they forget to do their job its OK !! Now I'm bloody furious !

theyre on wheel bolts ( not nuts as I said) the bolts are shot around the chamfer - the thread into the hubs are OK though thank god ! Note to self NEVER use national tyres again.

I get a lot of tyres through Costco, every vehicle has the wheels fitted by one man who signs the job, then another guy actually tightens them using a torque wrench which is re-set for each vehicle and he signs the sheet too. But even then there is a 're-check' clause the customer has to sign. I have not had any complaints about their procedures in many hundreds of tyres.
