Does anybody how what petrol is safe to use with the Pug/Cit 16v Mi16 engine
as fitted in the BX 16v and the 405 Mi16?

Unleaded, super U/L or LRP (while I can still get some!!)?

If it makes any difference it is a 1990 without (as far as I know) a cat...

Thanks

Re: Pug/Cit Mi16 - unleaded?

1988-91: XU9J4 (D6C)motronic 4.1 (non cat)
160bhp @ 6500rpm
133lb/ft @ 5000rpm

1991-93: XU9J4/K (D6C)motronic 1.3 (non cat but has a knock sensor)
155bhp @ 6500rpm
130lb/ft @5000rpm

1990-93: XU9J4/Z (DFW)motronic 1.3 (cat version)
148bhp @ 6400rpm
122lb/ft @ 5000rpm

The first version is not supposed to be able to run on normal 95
octane unleaded yet it does!

Re: Pug/Cit Mi16 - unleaded?

take the cat off if you have one with a  cat and im sure it would work well
with some LRP in it :D
LRP round here isn't far off the price of normal UL which makes me think I
should go back to a Renault 5 Turbo as I could use it in that, my poor R 19
16v wont :(

Unleaded is the best bet, and if you ever hear a tinkling tiny kind of sound
it means your timing is off a little, so maybe start using the LRP then!

Just stick to super unleaded or optimax and you should be fine.

Re: Pug/Cit Mi16 - unleaded?

But what about regression on the valve seats? Are Mi16 seats "hard", i.e. UL
safe? Bear in mind in the last year I've put 20k miles on my last car (Audi
90q) and I'm likely do the same with the BX 16v and I am a rather
"enthusiastic" driver!!

Yes , it's an alloy head with hardened inserts. Some of the early 1.9 8V's
where fussy but I'm pretty certain the 16V's fine.
