Question on Best Oil/Grease Lube for Two Steel Components

Not sure if I am in the right forum.... Hope so. I have put together a pulley system that consists of two steel 3 inch loops. One is looped inside the other, so there is friction when they rub against each other under stress (twisting-turning metal on metal). Does anyone make any type of spray-on lube that will harden so that its lubricating properties will last for some time. I realize I could use grease but it would be pretty messy for what I need. Also, something like WD40 will probably evaporate off pretty quick or drip off. An ideal situation would be something in a spray can like teflon that would harden when sprayed on and would last for months.... don't know if such a thing exists.

-Thanks for any help.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "buck" saying something like:

Go into any motorcycle dealer and get some aerosol chain lube, which is actually a spray-on grease.

If you look in Yellow Pages, you will find industrial suppliers of such stuff and it's usually better and cheaper, look for forklift truck chain grease in spray cans.

Lasting for months? No chance. A thick grease will soon move away fromm the pressure points, and a thinner grease or oil will simply run off The sort of lubricant you're looking for doesn't exist. IMO the best solution is to lubricate it each time it is used, or during it's use if it is in use for long periods. Or, forget about any lubrication, and simply replace the parts when they are worn out. Mike.
