Rainwater Leak

"Iain Dingsdale"

There's a midget hiding in the back of the car at night going for a wee. Common problem with Toledos.

Any tips to tracing these? The Toledo has a slight puddle in the near side rear footwell. I dried it all up and made sure the door and windows were properly closed, and after a night of heavy rain it appeared again. The only problem is the carpet all down the sides is bone dry, there is literally a puddle in the footwell. If it was door seals then surely it would trickle down the carpet, leaving a wet trail? It's clean water, so its not come off the road. There is no sunroof so that cant be it. Any ideas where i start?

Had a Triumph Acclaim with rainwater ingress for months. Garage eventually traced it to a pinhole size fault in the roof joint weld - under a plastic cover strip. Thought they were extremely clever in finding it. No apology for all my marketing kit saturated though. Maybe check your rear window rubber seal and make sure the boot seal is intact. DaveK.

The obvious starter is to sit in the back of the car while someone sprays it with a pressure washer - hosepipe at a push, but the pressure washer will find the leak quicker. If it's leaking that much the source should become obvious quite quickly.

I did have a "leak" on a Saab that turned out to be the feed pipe for the rear washer leaking in the headlining. I also had a leak on the front screen of the Previa which, being raked back so far, dripped through the steering wheel into my lap! I fixed that by easing back the rooflining and sealing the windscreen edge with polyurethane (Tiger Seal) from inside!
