Checked with my Ford dealer today. I have a '99 Fiesta with the 1.25L Zetec-SE
engine. Cam belt change is at 100K/10 years according to the Ford service
schedule that accompanied the owner's handbook. I asked the service manager what
would happen if my cam belt snapped after 4 years, with a full Ford dealer
service history.

"Ford would cover the cost of the repairs in full" was the reply.

Is the service interval for cam belts still 100K/10 years? I asked.

"Yes" was the reply.

Zetec-SE

That's what I don't completely trust - the fact that Ford dealers actually
are in posession of all the facts!

Cheers for the reply anyway.

My slight problem is that mine has a full Ford dealer history up to 87k, and
since then I've changed the oil every 5k, and basically done everything else
according to Ford recommendations, with genuine Ford parts, but without the
stamp of a main dealer - everything apart from the cambelt, which I would
definitely take to a Ford dealer.  I would expect to have a proper guarantee
though, but in reality I'm not sure what the comeback would be.

Re: Fiesta Endura-DI cambelt interval

I suspect that Ford would worm their way out of it because your Fester wasn't
serviced by a Ford approved service agent using genuine Ford parts.

I had a lovely Astra Mk3 16v which I stupidly sold to my father-in-law to buy a
new Focus. In the three years that I had the car I had it serviced on schedule
by the supplying Vauxhall main dealer. My dad let the servicing slip and at
40K/4 years the tensioner pulley failed and the cam belt jumped off the
sprockets.

He ended up with a bill for £1200 for repairs, and that was on the cheap side
because the work was done by a friend of a friend who owns an independent
service garage.

Vauxhall's recommended service interval for this engine is still 80K/8 years.

Re: Fiesta Endura-DI cambelt interval

No it is not. The belt change interval on nearly all petrol Ecotecs is
40,000miles and has been now for 18months+. Any dealer which is telling you
its still 80k is lying and obviously intent on making lots of money from
replacing cylinder heads on cars where the cam drive has failed- almost
always a failed tensioner.

Re: Fiesta Endura-DI cambelt interval

I do apologise. It's three years since I had the Astra, obviously the
position changed soon after I sold it.

TD-DI,

Zetec-SE

I had a similar conversation with my local Ford Dealer who was adament that
the belt would last 100k miles / 10 years.
