Re: honda legend mpg

17 (usually) - 40 plus (long run)

That's damn good for a 3.2. When I had a 2.9 Granada I managed[1]:

2mpg if foot-to-the-floor acceleration. 6mpg giving it an Italian tune up. 12mpg around town rising to 15 if warmed up properly. 25mpg on nice open twisty roads. 36mpg driving sensibly on the motorway.

Mind you, the Honda engine is probably a little more refined. :-)

I doubt the specific fuel consumption of the *engine* itself is very much better given the Granada had fuel injection.

Weight, type of transmission, etc etc will have more influence.

Depends on conditions. If that's all it got cruising on a motorway, it was fooked.

Indeed - I get 28-32 out of mine on motorway trips, but at most 18 if I'm round town or out thrashing. Mind you that's a TR7v8, which is somewhat lighter than the SD1.

Yup - my EFI auto is around 30 on a motorway. Push it hard round enjoyable roads and you can half that.

Asking an individual what a car does MPG wise is pretty pointless as it depends so much on driving conditions. Autocar's 'standard route' test gives a pretty fair comparison, though.

In news: snipped-for-privacy@davenoise.co.uk, Dave Plowman (News) decided to enlighten our sheltered souls with a rant as follows

My Vitesse manual (chipped, K&N, stainless pipe, TVR heads) used to do about

17 in town and approx 35 on a run.. thrashing it was too much fun to worry about mpg.. but I suspect it was around 13mpg...

Hmmm, why is it that whenever I hear all the nasty stories of rust, (non)reliability and the serious drinking problem these cars have, I still think "mmmmm, SD1....want one!". Perhaps there's an SD1 droolers anonymous I could sign up to!

Yes, I know my spilling chucker wants to change SD1 to SAD! :-D

came:

You may be right there. I believe the Granada weighs about the same as a small sun, with an automatic transmission that makes a sound like an elephant being chainsawed.....if the transmission is in perfect condition.

There's a club and a couple of e-mail groups.

I've just finished re-bushing the suspension, fitting new shocks, and rebuilding the callipers. And it's running like a dream.

They've got so rare now people come up to you now in the filling station etc for a chat.
