Re: NATIONWIDE AUTOCENTRE
I just went to Halfords to buy a bike for my son's b'day. Out of stock.
Fair enough....but completely unable to tell me when they'd have it back
in. "What if I order one?" Apprently, even then, there's no way of
telling me when it's going to arrive. Had the same trouble with Millets
and Mothercare recently.
What is wrong with these people? They've all lost sales in the £100
region 'cos they simply can't be aresed to tell me when it's going to be
there.

:-)
Obviously I don't eat just those. I eat bread too, but they don't run out
of that. Plus "almost-sell-by" cake.
Not buying pre-packed salad, I don't find that a problem, but the problem
is that it could be that _everyone_ who goes in can't find one of the
things they're after.

Re: NATIONWIDE AUTOCENTRE
As for Asda, I end up spending bugger all there, not because its a lot
cheaper but (despite being the shop being the size of Russia) they got
bugger-all there. I couldn't even get a jar of anchovies there or some
rocket, what is the world coming to? Whereas Waitrose might be quite
expensive and small, but they seem to cater very well for my needs.
I also got my car dented quite badly in the Asda car-park. See, I managed
to get it back on to u.r.c.m subject matter!
Re: NATIONWIDE AUTOCENTRE
their
watch
Could you _ever_ get stuff like that in Asda?
I have to say though, their pizza and takeaway kicks arse! Their white
choccy's not too bad too.
Can you buy _fresh_ anchovies anywhere? Obviously you can, because I had a
salad once with fresh ones, not those evil salted buggers. I _love_ fresh
anchovies.
You're obviously from the South! Don't get Waitroses as far north as
Cheshire!
And in 9 days time, it'll be 12 months since mine was last vandalised
(July 20th, proposed to girlfriend, night before, I heard someone kicking
hell out of my wing mirror). The problem seems to have moved to a
different area now, but it's interesting reading the paper, seeing the
letters from different places saying "Can't you do something about the
louts taking off wing mirrors".

Re: NATIONWIDE AUTOCENTRE
I stopped using MSF Ford in Merseyside when their standards went down the
drain in my experience. For years they serviced various cars, then when
they changed from Blakes it all seemed to go wrong.
On one occasion they were playing with the air horns so a younger mechanic
would keep dropping the bonnet or jumping. Someone decided to do a
wheelspin across the workshop floor, possibly by accident. This happened
while I was waiting so I wasn't impressed. It took 3 attempts to change a
rear crankcase oil seal, then they moaned about changing the clutch again
when it was contaminated due to their error. They left black marks over my
seats and carpet, couldn't even fix a heater matrix and it took them TWO
DAYS to replace a thermostat. The heater had gone cold inside the car so
they stripped the thermostat out and said they had put the old one in the
bin, so i had to walk home! i was charged for replacing something that
wasn't faulty.
NEVER again. I think a lot of garages are crap. I wouldn't use anything
like Apples, Kwik Fit or National. It's difficult to find anyone that does
provide a good service now and someone not trying to rip customers off.
While I was waiting at one place, after refusing new shock absorbers, every
woman that drove in was told that her brakes needed changing and it would be
dangerous to let the car on the road - it would be unsafe for children.
They were also offered the chance to sign up for a finance agreement. At
another in Wallasey I watched as a junkie walked in with a bag of boxed
portable CD players and CDs, then offered them to staff - he was also taking
further orders. I couldn't believe it - any of the customers could have
been police etc.
I have seen many cons - it's a shame a few more are not named and shamed.
This is what puts me off buying a used car, i would rather have a new one
and hope nothing went wrong.
Re: NATIONWIDE AUTOCENTRE
You make it sound so simple.
Becuase the whole industry works on Just in Time right through the
supply chain, it actually makes it _harder_ to get extra stock on
demand.
Plus, the sales trends are never predictable. The British public are
very good at 'panic' buying when there's a change in weather - it's been
like Russia in the produce department at my place this week. People
pushing each other out of the way to get at the salad packs, ffs!
Also take into account that fresh products _can't_ be stored, and have
to be ordered straight from the suppliers, and it means that you have at
least a 48 hour lead time to get extra stock in.
JIT also relies on the actual stock levels matching thoretical stock
levels - with 60,000 products on the shelves this is considerably harder
than you might think.
