Removing Number Plate

I have a rear replacement number plate to fit, problem is that it seems to be bonded on some how, no screws! What is the safest way to remove the plate without causing damage?

TIA

Many number plates are held on with sticky fixers. Pass a thin wire (like guitar or piano wire) behind it and pull on the ends to cut through the pads.

The message from Charles contains these words:

It's usually done with double sided sticky pads. A bit of fishing line looped round the back and used as a saw will get it off eventually.

Heat it with a hairdryer too, softens the adhesive. When you put the new one on, make sure it's horizontal- looks tatty otherwise (although lots are fitted badly at the dealers). DaveK.
