Renault 19 probs

Just working the way throught the faults on my latest banger an 95 M reg Renatul 19 1.9DT RT.

It's quite a nice car so far and it was damn cheap :) Just the way I like them.

Anyway, it has a noisy clutch and I can live with that for a while until it starts giving problems OR I get fed up and do it before.

The main problem I have is that when you accelerate it pulls slightly to the right, I'm wondering if this is because the tracking seems to be a touch out, you have to hold the wheel slightly left to get it to go straight in normal driving, the only concerning part of that thought is that the tracking is out on my Montego and that doesn't do it at all. Maybe something to do with the power steering?

Anyway, if anybody's encounted this before please shed some light on it.

Get the tracking sorted, a 4wheel alignment will get it perfect for you but make sure they have the correct number for the 19 TD! Then if it still does it it could be the Gearbox on the way out and providing more power than it should to one wheel, my 16v did this before i blew the diff and box and clutch apart, it too had a noisy clutch release bearing!

Best of luck with it! Will

Yeh, it's going to go in next weekend for it

Ooooh, now you've got me worried, athough the box is slightly noisy and since they have to remove engine and box to do the clutch I was going the have them replace the box at the same time, just depends on funds when it goes bang.

After that I think I might need it.

But having said all that, it really is a cracking car, oodles of power for a diesel, reasonably quiet, very composed on the road and best of all I think it look very nice even with the standard bodykit, AND as economical as my Montego 2 litre TD (but nowhere near as rattly).

cheapest palce by far and a few places ive been havent been able to get their parst as cheap as i found them last year :), when you get the new(er) box drain the box of fluid completely and refill it, also give it a nice clean for when it goes to the garage as it will make it a bit easier for them to see what they are doing and doesnt take much work, an old scrub brush and some fairy liquid or engine cleaner :) also will show up any defects in the box casing as well :) Also a new engine/gearbox mount would be best fitted at this time as well and maybe a recon starter motor as it will no doubt go after the box has been done knowing the gud old 19's :) Oh and playing with the boost anf injection timing a little is pretty good and easy on these from what ive seen and they can shift pretty quick then, was in one that kept pace with a golf PD tDI(130bhp me thinks??) a while back, guy was a little shocked but i think he lived!(golf driver!) lol

Anything else just ask away :) Will,

We've found a place in Stockport (near Manchester) that seems pretty good. The car was cheap because of the noisy clutch and a leaking heater matrix. We got the matrix for £25 and took me about 3 hours to fit it. As apposed to Renaults £475+VAT!!!!!!!

Is that address right? Takes me to some kind of search engine thingy.

Also put a couple of marks onto the casing to make sure they used the box I gave them and didn't swap it for a knackered one.

That sounds good, proably tempting fate at the moment, maybe when I've confirmed a working box eh? :)

Now you've done it!!!!! It has dodgy back doors on the central locking. One locks but wont unlock and the other wont do anything. For the time being, I've unplugged the wierd one so I dont have to walk all the way round every time. When I opened the doors up, the motor appears to be part of the locking mechanism which took me by suprise, can they be bought seperately or are they complete units?

One more thing, the plastic trim round the windows, it's bubbly, I presume this is aluminium corrosion? I haven't tried yet but I presume these just pull off? Might have to check out with renault how much for new ones.

Other than the above, thats all thats wrong with it (I think) but a set of alloys would be good, especially since it only has three wheel trims.

it will take ya there as well!

Good idea, just ask for old box back so ya can take it to bits just for fun as well!

They were on my 16v and prob the same for other models, best bet is to take the doors apart and remove the unit(real ball pain with such little space! then strip it down and regrease it, seal it with silicone where possible and they will last longer that way.

They are a bit of a shock when you get the price from renault trust me :( might find a decent set at a scrappy but doubtfull.

Phase1 Alloys are better as they dont attract much attention to them being alloys at all and the rubber isnt that expensive for them , bout 40-50 for a decent tyre :)
