Renault Clio 1.2 Exhaust Gas Monitor

My wifes Clio has had several problems with the exhaust gas monitor staying on. The 1st time it was deemed to be the sensor, the second, the plugs. It has now started again and this time is accompanied by 'chugging', etc and starts around 60mph. Does anyone know how to fix this without taking it to the garage again? The garage prices are extortionate. Thanks in advance....:)

The message from snipped-for-privacy@eircom.net contains these words:

Seems an entirely reasonable answer to me.

There is no diy answer. A garage is needed, ask them to check whether the catalytic converter (cat for short) is blocked, any decent garage will have the gadget to check.

Thanks mate...have no knowledge of cars at all, so appreciate your help. As for Sandy, well, thanks for that too. You obviously came top of the class in communication skills.

Clearly not as high as you, anyway. Your ignorance is nothing short of spectacular.

Lets put it this way - if you know so little that you don't believe a 'cat' is a real part of the exhaust system, *and* your attitude to anyone who tries to help is to assume the worst, then there is *nothing* you can do to get it fixed without taking it to a garage.

*Your* communication skills are insufficient to get help from a helpful group like this. A bit sad really

HTH.

Oh yes, don't top post too, it hacks people off.
